Previous: Year 2 Summer 2024

This term our topic has been Our Living World. We have been learning all about nocturnal animals and writing non-chronological reports on them. The children have enjoyed researching and finding out about some of these animals.

We have carried out an investigation to see what material stops an ice cube from melting in science and in history, we have learned about the Great Fire of London. The children have been very engaged when learning about this historical event and can all tell the story of what happened. Why not ask your child about this?

We got very messy in our art this term where we made tiles in the style of William Morris. We looked at botanical sketching and then printed our own wallpaper designs.

Some Year 2 children also went to a 'Football Festival' at Elvetham Heath Primary School. These children thoroughly enjoyed the event and were a credit to our school.

We have been working really hard this term and had lots of exciting experiences.

The fire service visited us to talk about fire safety. The fire fighters were very informative and we watched our teachers dress up in their uniform. This was important because we noticed our teachers looked very different in the uniform and we discussed that fire fighters wear this to keep safe. The children also learned that they should be encouraging grown ups to test their fire alarms once a week.

We have also had a visit from the RAF who carried out some STEM workshops. In the workshop the children made powered boats using a plastic bottle, tape, elastic bands and lolly sticks. The children enjoyed testing these in the water trays.

In addition to visitors, we have completed our DT work on where food comes from, learnt about vegetables and how they grow and a healthy diet. After tasting different vegetables we made our own vegetable kebabs and then cooked them on the fire pit.

We have worked as teamwork tigers to complete our sports day races where we showed good sportsmanship and perseverance.

Science day was a lot of fun, we went on minibeast hunts, used microscopes and looked for different life in a hoop on the school grounds.

On top of all these exciting events, we have been practicing our end of year performance of Pirates vs Mermaids and completing lots of transition activities for the junior school.
